Book Review: Seeing God as a Perfect Father Author: Louis Giglio

This book is about shifting our thinking from how we view our Heavenly Father through the lenses of our earthly fathers and teaches us how to experience God as a perfect Father. It has been chosen as Women of Reverence's book of the Month!

You are chosen, loved, prized, wanted, and believed in by a perfect Father. In Seeing God as a Perfect Father, Louie Giglio invites us to experience God in a life-changing way: as a perfect Father who wants you to live under the waterfall of His blessing.

A. W. Tozer wrote, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." How we view God makes all the difference in our lives. It informs everything about who we are and who we're becoming.

When you think about God, do you imagine a ruler who demands absolute loyalty, or a coach who expects you to perform to his expectations Or even a virtual assistant to help when other options are exhausted This updated edition of the national bestseller Not Forsaken challenges our perception of who God is and points us to a heavenly Father who is not absent or ambivalent, but is available and affectionate, ready to shower us with his approval and love.

No matter what has happened on this side of eternity between you and your earthly dad, Seeing God as a Perfect Father will help you:

  • Embrace who God is and discover the truth and beauty of his nature

  • Understand that God uniquely created you and loves you unconditionally

  • Unlock the chains holding you captive and find freedom in who you are in Christ

  • Walk in the fullness, authority, and intimacy a child of God

When we take hold of the truth that our God has spanned heaven and earth to reach us, we will no longer be defined by our past but by the love of a perfect Father. Learn how God wants us to experience his unique, unconditional love and to live in the freedom, abundance, and blessing He freely gives.

Name of Book:

Seeing God as a Perfect Father and seeing you as loved, pursued and secure

Author:

Louis Giglio

What drew you to read this book?:

I have always enjoyed Louis Giglio, his books are always encouraging and challenging. Seeing God as a Perfect Father is something that is we all need, this view is often tainted and we view God through the lenses of our earthly fathers. My prayer was that this book would give me a fresh revelation of who God is.

What impact did this book have on your life?:

Daddy's girl was something that has always been a far-off dream and a foreign idea to me. Understanding that God is a Perfect Father and that He calls me his daughter, has shifted my focus. I have a Perfect, Heavenly Father who loves me and has pursued me, who will never leave, never be complacent and never let me down. Even the most amazing father on earth is not perfect and will fall short, BUT GOD. We can dig deep into the character and love of God and find fullness and acceptance and the love that we have been longing for. Not only does God want to love us as the Perfect Father, but He also wants to walk a journey of healing and forgiveness with our views and ideas of our earthly fathers.

In a paragraph, what is the main point of this book?:

This book shows you how you can live in the freedom of knowing God as a perfect Father. That God’s heart has always been family and that He longs for a relationship with us. We have been adopted as sons and daughters. We have access to the heart of the father, the perfect, flawless Father. Regardless of the type of father we had, whether they were, absent, abusive, passive, performance based, antagonistic or empowering, God is not a reflection, but the perfection of our earthly father. Because of what Jesus did on the cross we never have to life a single day without a father’s blessing. Louis takes the time to acknowledge that the hurt caused by our earthly fathers is real and sometimes there has been abuse. He is not advocating for putting yourself in harm’s way, but sometimes the healing we will receive by walking in forgiveness is worth the hurt that comes while walking it out. God has spanned heaven and earth to reach us. The book closes with a wonderful list of who God says we are, who He has made us to be- His children.

Who would benefit from reading this book?:

Everyone who is looking for a better understanding of God as a father, whether you have had a great father or a father that was not the best example. All of us can look at God through lenses that have been coloured by our experiences or the things we wished we had experienced. We all need to take the time to see God’s character and love.
