Book Review: Living the Gift Out Loud Author: Mabble Munyimani

Mabble asks the defining question, are you a parent raising a high achiever? If your answer is yes, this book is for you. Mabble offers insights into what to look out for in a child. There are traits, strengths, positive qualities, and "quirkiness" that can often be overlooked, undervalued, unappreciated and misunderstood whilst parenting in a busy modern world.

This can sometimes lead to the child being mislabeled. The high-achiever child demands so much more from the world around them and from themselves.

Parental support, guidance and a strong mindset are key elements for the gift to transition from its potential state. Mabble teaches on how to grow and develop as the nurturer. Mabble takes her reader through her own journey, from discovering she had high-achievers and draws key learning points from her own upbringing, sharing intimate stories in a humorous and heartfelt manner. She communicates the indispensable principles a parent must inaugurate and impart to their child so they achieve their own self-identity and confidence. Mabble is now on the other side, her children are confidently developing their athletic talents. This book remains valid and applicable to all other gifts and empowers any parent in pursuit of raising a confident child who is unapologetic about their strengths and talents.

What drew you to read this book:

As a homeschooling mom of three children, I love to find resources that equip me and the families I support. I was excited to read this book because of the subtitle: “ how to successfully spot and nurture your child’s unique talent”

What impact did this book have on you:

This book is both inspiring and empowering. Working through the application sections at the end of each chapter has helped me clarify my children's gifting and the entire process of reading the book, was like having a skilled coach, and an understanding and insightful guide by my side. I was challenged as a parent in some paradigms I hold, and at the same time, the grace-filled practical helps, have built a sense of confidence in my role as nurturer.

In a paragraph, what is the main point of the book?:

This book has been written by an author who has walked the journey and the process of identifying her own children’s gifting. There is incredible wisdom and practical insights for any one wanting to discover and nurture the unique God-given gifts in their children. I love how she unpacks what it means to create that “incubator for excellence”, i.e. the nurturing home, as well as the “how to” of nurturing this place of encouragement. This books takes you on a step by step journey, with inspiring and teachable moments, and real life experiences that move to become an engaged and intentional parent, who is not asleep to the gifts and potential in their children, but one who is ready, and equipped to fully embrace an active role as nurturer of their children’s gifting and callings.

Who would benefit from reading this book?:

The parent who has a passion to see their children live out their God-Given design, who really want to clarify what their child’s gifting is and exactly the kind of support and environment it will take to nurture that. I can see homeschoolers in particular finding great value in the principles and insights and practical wisdom from the book.
