Nicola Seevaraj

Wife. Mother. Founding pastor. Singer-songwriter. Charity manager. Fundraiser.

Nicola was born in Harare, Zimbabwe to British parents, and was raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. She now resides in Brighton & Hove on the gorgeous south east coast of England with her husband, Jéan where they founded and pastor ‘South City Church’ since 2003. The couple met in 1997 at New Covenant Fellowship (now called One Life) in Pietermaritzburg where they married and were later launched out into life as church-planters. Nicola & Jéan have two sons and three daughters, however, tragically in 2008 their first born son, Joseph died suddenly of sepsis at the tender age of three. Through their darkest storms, God has been their anchor has shown Himself compassionate and faithful, given them courage, hope  and comfort as He has promised.

Nicola is a prolific songwriter that stems from her lineage of musicians and composers; she has been playing guitar since she was a young school girl and has since added a few more instruments to her repertoire. She leads the worship ministry and facilitates a group of local Christian creatives to help activate the creative arts in the church. She has written songs such as ‘Hot coffee’, ‘Lovesong’, ‘North star’ - some of which can be found on Soundcloud. Her latest project is teaching ukulele which she does in person and online.

In 2017, Nicola began a career in professional fundraising and has worked for some of the UK’s leading charities including the British Heart Foundation and Child Bereavement UK. She has always had a passion to raise much needed funds and the profile of the causes she cares about in her community. A particular focus for her is helping to bridge the gap in bereavement support provision. Having had first-hand experience of the need for help, she is now a volunteer group facilitator for The Compassionate Friends which provides peer support to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. She hosts the group once a month and is the local point of contact for Sussex to help signpost people to the different layers of support that are available from TCF and other referral agencies. Nicola and Jéan manage their own community project called ‘Bushcraft Heroes’, which provides free wilderness experiences to kids and their grown-ups.

Genesis 41:52 ‘God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering’.
