COVID-19 they said, lockdown they said, stay at home and keep safe, they said. As we went into lockdown in South Africa on the 27th March, I felt as if my world was crashing down. My busy life of meeting with people every day to encourage, motivate and direct them suddenly came to a halt. People went into survival mode and it was all I could do to keep myself motivated – never mind anyone else.

The world is calling it ‘Lockdown’ and those words can make us feel alone, trapped, frantic and afraid. We have had to adapt to something we have never experienced before. Some of us are delighted to be in isolation, others are counting the days until life gets back to some semblance of normality. Well, I have got news for you! Life will never go back to the way we knew it!

We have found ourselves in a situation over which we have very little control. Our routines may have been severely disrupted with little, or no sense of purpose or we may feel as if we are living under more pressure than ever. Longer hours, more meetings, more demands as we do whatever we can to get through it! Some of us are asking Lord, why is this happening and what are you doing in me?

Whenever we experience drastic change, the first question we ask ourselves is, ‘what does this mean to me?’ I asked the Lord what does this mean to me? To my business? To my life? In the early days of lockdown, I heard the Lord whisper…. This is Incubation, this is not Lockdown Incubation is “a time needed for any particular process of development to take place”

What if…. God is using this season to bring to life some things in you that have been lying dormant? Dreams that have fallen by the wayside? Ideas that you have laid down because of the ‘busyness’? of life? What if he is giving you new hope? What if He is birthing something new in you? Bringing something to life that only you can do. What if it is time to let go of the past and look towards the future? What is the Lord removing from you? What old habits and old thought patterns need to go? What is he placing in you?

I was delighted with a new way of looking at things. A new lens to see this difficult season. It began to create new hope in my heart.

There are examples of people in the Bible who found themselves in isolation, but I particularly want to remind you of a remarkable woman. Esther. I believe that Esther was in incubation! Esther 2:12 “…. She had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments…” Think about it like this, a random girl suddenly finds herself in the palace. Palace or not, it was new to her and she had to adapt. She could not go out for coffee with a friend or do the weekly shopping. As far as we understand, she was confined to life within the palace walls and that may have felt like a prison. Sound familiar? She had to live a completely new life and leave her old life behind. Old ways of living, old ways of thinking, old habits. She had to embrace this new life and submit very quickly. She was being prepared for such a time as this. And remember, she saved a nation! For what is God preparing you?

I want to encourage you today as we are in incubation, to ask the Lord what He is doing in your life? Incubation must end! It does not go on forever. Something beautiful emerges after incubation and God’s timing is perfect! Do not underestimate your role in the kingdom of God. Do not underestimate the gifts God has placed in you and do not underestimate the plans He has for you. You were born for a purpose that the world cannot do without. You are the person for the job! You are the voice that needs to speak! You are the one that Jesus is busy with right now so surrender and submit to Him. God is going to raise you up into the destiny He has planned for you. Let’s partner with Him, walk with Him and talk with Him in this season and see what He brings forth in your life!

He is all we need! Heather Church Email –
