What comes to mind when you see the title of my story? I am sure you are thinking healthy drink or well-being and can I dare say perfection! I wish - this smoothie still has rough ingredients that God is blending together at a very slow pace......well it feels like it! I guess He is not in a rush 😉
Women of Reverence this month is sharing stories of relationships and or love. Mine is not a fairy tale one 😂 but one of a Mess but turned to a Message.
My messy ingredients were chucked into the blender from the year 1993......well you could say in 1975, the year of my birth. The Bible does say He knew us before He knitted us in our mother’s womb.
I was 18 yrs old when I fell pregnant and it was during my matric year (for the now generation - Grade 12). This hit me and my family hard. None of us saw this curve ball coming our way. However a beautiful baby girl was born - the only thing about that year which was not a mess!
Fast forward to 2006 - another curve ball of a second child born out of wedlock came my way. This time was harder coz we were both (we will call him John) adults. We knew exactly what we were doing (ouch). No one or thing to blame!
You see my mom had warned me never to move in with any man before marriage. She said that whoever I move in with will never marry me because He will make me a ' wife' before I am officially one. She also said that Jesus would not approve of that behaviour. I gave her my word without really thinking about it. None of my prior relationships with my ex - boyfriends has this topic ever come up. Besides at that time I was single and free! I cared less about her advice or warning about moving in with someone. Little did I know! I gave her my word but when “ John” asked me to move in with him , I did not think for a second to honour my promise to my mom. Instead I was excited about moving in, it felt like finally, I have found the ONE. We are all looking for the ONE!
Free advice to my sisters out there - never dis-honour a promise given to a praying parent. Ephesians 6 vs 1 – 3
1 Children, obey (honour) your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2” Honour your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land”.
So I learnt the hard way for not honouring my mom. 'John' went off to marry someone else on the date he had promised me😂😂😂😂 - ouch. That hurt big time! Thank God that His hand is not too short to extend and save us. God used this mess that I caused upon myself to save me!
Isaiah 59 vs 1
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save or His ear dull, that it cannot hear
My God remembered the prayers of my grandmother and mom (and rest of the people in their particular local churches) who were crying for my salvation. He stretched his hand in mercy and Grace, and pulled me out of the pit, broken, hurting & stinking.
I gave my life over to Jesus in January 2006. He cleaned me up. Through many relationships in the community of God, in the local church I was part of, family and Jesus following social circles, God showed me His perfect love. The love I was deeply yearning for without even knowing that was my deepest cry.
Relationships are very important to God. You see when Jesus came here on earth he found people to do life. He chose twelve men to be in community with. He has not called us to be an island. He wants us to be in the thick of things with people. If there is a mess (I can guarantee there will be) He will blend us together to be His smoothie. To him we are like yoghurt with ingredient chunks of unblended fruit in it. He is not shocked by our rough edges; instead He has the patience to blend one ingredient at a time.
Who are you doing life with? Are you planted in a local church or community of believers whom will love, support, strengthen, challenge and encourage you through the blending process?
Life can throw you many curve balls. You need people around you to walk the journey with. I am certain I am not able to withstand the fiery darts of the enemy (satan) thrown my way daily without fellow believers standing with me in prayer.
If you are interested in being part of a meaningful and eternal relationships while you on this earth, we recommend you doing the following:
1. Find a Jesus follower/believer and inform them that you would like to surrender your heart and life to Jesus. John 14 vs 6 2. Pray for God to lead you to a Jesus believing Word based and Holy Spirit filled church. If you would like us to link you with a community of believers, comment below and we will do our best to connect you. 3. Get water baptised –You leave your old self and become a new creation. Romans 6 vs 3 - 10 4. Pray to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Acts 2 vs 1 - 4 5. Commit to read your Bible everyday – this commitment will assist you in renewing your mind. Romans12 vs 2 6. Recommend that you be part of Home-group/Life Group/ Small Group /Connect Group – you can find this forum in a local church. Acts 2 vs 42 7. Pray and or talk to God daily – Philippians 4 vs 4 - 6
As you consistently do the above your relationship with the perfect one (Jesus) will grow and blossom as He initially intended.
