What drew you to read this book?
I first heard about Tim Tebow when I read an article about him on Crosswalk. He had been in a lot of trouble with the American media because he said that when he got married, he would want a wife who is "servant-hearted". The media assumed that he meant a "doormat", but the in the article Tebow explained Jesus' model of servant-heartedness so well, that he caught my attention, and I was keen to read more.
What impact did this book have on your life?
Tim Tebow starts off writing about his mom's pregnancy, which was really difficult, and she was advised to have an abortion to save her life. Being a Christian, this wasn't an option for her, and although Tim's birth wasn't easy, even the doctors called him a miracle baby when both he and his mom survived! Tebow then goes on to describe how he discovered his love and talent for football, and I loved how he acknowledged throughout the book that his talents are God-given, and how he strives to use them to bring God glory. In his professional football matches, Tebow would wear stickers under his eyes with Scripture references on them, and during the games those Bible verses got 10s of thousands of searches on Google - just one of the amazing ways that God has used this young man's platform and abilities to draw people to Him. As a side note, Tim Tebow also talks about how he was homeschooled, and at the time I read the book, I was looking for educational alternatives for my son. We're now 4 years into our homeschooling journey, and I can trace my first thoughts about going that route back to this book.
In a paragraph, what is the main point of the book?
To sum it up, this is a powerful, inspirational book about a man whose faith is "the real deal"!! The chapters where Tebow speaks about his struggles to hear God's direction for his life and career, and his desire to be in God's will in everything he does, were especially challenging and encouraging to read.
Who would benefit from reading this book?
Everyone who enjoys a good autobiography! A book about an American football star probably seems an unlikely choice for a women's website, but as a book about a humble yet talented man of God - whose life and testimony have stood the test of time long after this book was published - this is a great read. Some ladies might want to read it to find out more about the man who stole the heart of Miss South Africa! And if it's not your cup of tea, buy a copy for your husband or your teenage son - they'll be blessed by it!
