Book Review: In The Grip of Grace Author: Max Lucado

Can anything separate us from the love Christ has for us?

That's the question.

Can I drift too far? Wait too long?

Slip too much? Can I out-sin the love of God? The answer is found in one of life's sweetest words - GRACE.

"Ponder the achievement of God", author Max Lucado offers. God doesn't condone our sin, nor does he compromise His standard. He doesn't ignore our rebellion, nor does He relax His demands. Rather than dismiss our sin, He assumes our sin and , incredibly, sentences himself.

God is still holy. Sin is still sin.

And we are redeemed.

Max invites you to walk the mountain peaks of God's mercy. In his most theologically challenging book to date, In the Grip of Grace will remind you that the God who first made you is strong enough to sustain you.

What drew you to read this book:

The title of the book grabbed my attention. When you are in somethings grasp, it can have such a firm hold on you that you can’t get out. This would normally have a negative connotation. But what a wonderful thought to be so tightly held by God’s Grace, that there is no way to escape it.

What impact did this book have:

Max Lucado does not mince his words; he is honest and straight forward. This book shows us just how desperately we need God’s grace. This book explores, explains, and illustrates grace. It is full of such good stories, parables, and analogies that we can use to grasp the fullness of grace. It has given me a fresh revelation of just how amazing God’s grace is.

In a paragraph, what is the main point of the book:

This book takes us on an engaging yet convicting journey through the book of Romans. It is broken up into 3 sections: ‘What a mess’, ‘What a God’ and ‘What a difference’. This book does not downplay the magnitude of our sin, instead it highlights just how much of a mess we all find ourselves in: BUT GOD. Using stories and illustrations, Lucado creates scenarios that we can all relate to. None of us can earn or deserve God’s grace, yet it is freely given to us. Only God can take us out of our mess and make all the difference in our lives.

Who would benefit from reading this book:

This book will benefit people who are learning about God’s grace for the first time, giving a solid foundation. As well as challenge people of faith and bring fresh revelation of what it truly means to live in the grip of grace.
